A Fun Night In the E.R.
So last night during my dance class, we were preparing for my dance recital which is in 2 weeks. I was rehearsing my solo and went to do one of the fabulous jumps in my solo and... landed on my foot wrong. The whole top of my foot (the bones in my foot almost up to the top part of my ankle) popped and cracked. I could not even believe that that had just happened to me. I couldn't even cry at first. The realization that I wouldn't be able to dance and I started bawling. The pain came later.
As I lay on the floor, people surrounding me and tears pouring down my face, the only thing I could think of was, "Oh my God. I'm not going to be able to dance in two weeks." This realization hit hard and more tears came streaming out of my eyes. My foot slowly swelled around the point of injury, and we iced it ASAP. I knew it was something pretty bad when the pain level didn't decrease at all over the few hours that I sat miserably watching some of my best friends in the world preparing for what would have been my senior dance recital, my last one ever. More tears came when I had to phone my parents to tell them that I needed an x-ray on my foot; they rushed over and we went home, changed, and headed on over to the E.R. After a few hours, the results of the x-ray showed that, thankfully, nothing was broken! I was so relieved. The bad news, the ligaments in the top of my foot were severely sprained which means, no last dance recital ever for me. ): I knew that the doctor was going to to tell me that, but I still broke down. For 15 years, I've worked for this recital, and now, it's been taken away.
All this may seem negative but there are some positives:
1. My ankle did not get involved
2. It's not broken!!
3. It'll heal just fine
4. Life still goes on.
I hope that everyone is having a wonderful, pain-free summer!
Love always,
Rachel
p.s. I'm aware that this is very dramatic. Lol. Maybe I'll re-write it..too bad I didn't get any pictures..
p.p.s The final diagnosis on my foot was 3 fractures in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th metatarsals and sprains and tears in the ligaments that run across the mid-foot. I was casted for about 6 weeks and off of it completely for about 9. (So all summer..hahaha)
