Almost Home!! (+ weekend update!)

2 more days and I get to go home!! I am so beyond excited, it's not even real. I have 3 more class periods standing in the way of me and my house. (hehe). I am so excited for Thanksgiving. I get to spend time with my whole family and eat lots of delicious food. My dad is coming down tomorrow, and then we're leaving Wednesday morning for home, home, home!! I can't believe it's been 12 weeks since school started, but I'm definitely ready for a break. As much as I love college, it gets to be too much sometimes.

At any rate, most of you (for any readers out there...) know that I went camping this past weekend. It was so much fun!! I had a blast, and the campers had a ball. They loved every second of camp, and it was so awesome to see their faces. They were so enthusiastic about everything, except Saturday night, but we'll get there. They loved every moment and were all so grateful for the opportunity.

It was so cold! Apparently, the weather wasn't even as bad as it has been in the past. Saturday was overcast all day. The kids didn't seem to really mind it, but we did have to go back to the tents to get some warmer clothes at one point. We were ahead of schedule all day, until dinner time. By that point, the kids were exhausted. They were cranky. They didn't even want to eat dinner. All they wanted was to go to bed. I felt so bad every time I had to say, "But we still have stuff to do! We're almost done!" Their faces looked at me like I was some kind of freak. The day started at 7:00am and didn't end till after 10:30. They were so sleepy by the end of the night. We finally got them to bed, and I'm pretty sure they fell asleep in about 5 seconds.

Other than that, they had a blast, as did the counselors. It was so much fun, and I'm glad to be a part of such an amazing club. I'm sure that I don't appreciate it half as much as the kids we take on camp do. At the end of camp, we go around and say what we thought of the weekend, and so many of them said, "I'm so thankful for Camp Wildcat, and I had the best time of my life this weekend." I wanted to cry. It was so adorable. You could just hear in their voices how much they loved it and how much they wished it would never end. It was fun to hear them say, "I'm so thankful for..." because Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I know that this Thanksgiving I'll have more to be thankful for and more to appreciate. The club is dedicated to taking underprivileged children on camp, so children who come from broken homes, who come from homes where their parents barely finished high school, who come from homes who have maybe only 1 parent. The camps are always free and are such a privilege to experience.

On that note, I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving, and appreciates their lives a little bit more.

May the sun and happy faces brighten your day!
Rachel
