Relationships

Happy Thursday everyone!

Today I want to talk to you about relationships. All types. This is something that's been on my mind a lot lately for various reasons.

So, what makes a good relationship? To me, a solid relationship is built on trust, communication, respect, and love. Pretty basic right? But what about friendships? Acquaintances? Professional relationships? I think all relationships start out with the same basic foundation, trust and communication.

As of late, I've been feeling like my relationships are falling apart. However, when I really stop to think about it, I can only pinpoint one which has completely fallen to pieces. This situation was not my fault. The other person involved got in trouble with our supervisor and blamed me for the situation. I did not spur on any of their actions nor did I ask for them.

Anyhow, I can't shake this feeling that other relationships are starting to fall apart as well. I know this isn't true, but sometimes I can't help it.

I recently watched a podcast by the Shaytards called "Sexcast". Although sex is generally the topic, Shay makes a very good analogy about what a relationship should look like. He says that it should be a pyramid. There should be a strong base where you get to know each other. Each subsequent piece of the pyramid continues to build trust and respect until you reach the top which is, in their example sex. You need that solid base for the relationship to stand, and if you try to flip the pyramid, you'll never find what you're searching for or feel fulfilled because the pyramid will tip to one side or the other, it's never stable. This analogy can relate to any relationship. You can't have the intimacy/trust/respect you want if you don't work on the bottom sections of the pyramid first.

So why do relationships collapse? Because we don't take the time to build them up properly! I guess what I'm trying to say, is that we should take the time to nurture and care for our relationships. The feeling of letting one go or having one fall to pieces is the worst. Trust me.

I hope you're all having a fabulous Thursday, and that you're happy and loved!

Au revoir!
Rachel
