Themed Days and College Tips #1
Hi guys!
I've decided I'm going to themed days for my posts! I'll try to do one everyday, but being a full-time student leaves little time for much else...
Here's what I'm thinking so far:
Monday: Personal life
Tuesday: College tips
Wednesday: Beauty/health product
Thursday: Thoughtful/reflective
Friday: Miscellaneous post
What do you think? Here's a random photo as a transition!
Since today is Tuesday, here's a college post!
Something I've learned since starting college is how to study. I know that sounds weird, but there is a specific way that I study that I've learned/developed since being in college. In high school, I never/rarely had to study. I've basically breezed through school, since elementary school, like it's no big deal. When college came, the workload and difficulty kind of blind-sided me. I knew it would be difficult, but the amount of time needed for each class, each day really took me by surprise.
When the first round of exams came around, I was definitely not prepared. How did I study? What would be effective? What did I even need to study? The answer to the last question is basically everything from the first exam to the next.
A method that I've come up with that works for me, as studying is different for everyone, is this:
1 Week Before Exam
This is when I write in my planner to begin studying. I actually start writing it in about 10 days before because, let's face it, sometimes you just don't have enough hours to get everything done. If I give myself enough days to miss a few, I still get in enough studying to be prepared.
When I study, I go through every lecture that is going to be covered. I read through the powerpoints with my notebook open to each lecture in case I've written any supplemental information while in class. If a concept seems a bit fuzzy or I'm not super comfortable, I turn to the textbook.
WHAT.
Yes, I actually use the textbook. This has been pounded into us since the first day of classes, but the book does actually help, especially when you progress further in your program..strange.
I do this repeatedly until the day before the exam. If I can skim through the lectures because I can basically tell you everything that's on the slide, then I know I'll know it come test day.
Each day/night, I try to get in at least 1 hour of studying. I prefer to get around 2-4 in each day because that's more time I'm spending studying and reviewing material.
The Day Before
I try not to go overboard studying. I am a firm believer in "If I don't know it now, I'm not going to learn it in a few hours." I'm serious. Cramming and hardcore studying the night before only serves to psych me out. I try to focus on something else to keep me from fretting. I'm a worrier. I will worry until it drives me insane, and then worry some more. That night, I try to go to bed early. A good night's sleep does wonders. You're more alert, more focused, and more ready for the exam the next day.
Exam Day
That morning I try to wake up early enough to give myself plenty of time to get ready, eat, and head to class with time to spare. I hate rushing to class on days when I have an exam. I'm nervous already and stressing about being late does not help.
I'm the actual worst when it comes to eating breakfast, but I do try to grab something to put in my stomach. I don't need to be distracted by the fact that I'm starving halfway through my exam. That's not for anybody.
I don't generally bring notebooks or textbooks that pertain to that class because last minute studying really psychs me out. Some people do, and that's cool, but I don't. I try to relax and take deep breaths.
So there's my little posty on studying! Try it out and see if my method works for you! What do you do to study for an exam?
Have a happy Tuesday, and I'll (hopefully) see y'all tomorrow!
Au revoir!
